Sanford J. Kempin, M.D.

Sanford J. Kempin, MD, is the Director of Clinical Research and an attending physician
at St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center in New York City. A board certified
oncologist and hematologist, Dr. Kempin has been at SVCCC since 2000.
In addition to his responsibilities at SVCCC, Dr. Kempin serves as a Regional Director
of Clinical Research for Aptium Oncology and is an assistant professor at New York Medical
College.
Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Kempin has authored numerous articles that have been
published in medical journals, including Blood, Cancer, Clinical Oncology, Cancer
Investigation, and Leukemia. Dr. Kempin has also presented his work across the country
at various conferences and lectures, most recently at ECOG Protocol Presentations in both
Washington, DC and Orlando. He is a member of several professional organizations, such
as American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Dr. Kempin graduated from the University of Louvain, Belgium and completed his internship
at St. Mary's Hospital-Montreal Children's Hospital in Montreal. He later completed his
residency in internal medicine at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital-Faulkner Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Kempin was awarded a fellowship in pediatric hematology from St. Jude's Children's
Research Hospital in Memphis and another in the Department of Medicine at Cornell University
Medical College. He also received a research fellowship from Sloan-Kettering Institute for
Cancer Research in New York City. Dr. Kempin received his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn
College.
